Why Gratitude is Good

I trust and believe in the Law of Attraction. In manifesting what we want, showing gratitude goes a long way.

The meaning of GRATITUDE is “the act of noticing and appreciating the good things in your life.”

I only started doing this every night a few months ago, listing three things that I was grateful for and slowly something strange began to happen.

I found I was having more good days and the bad days started waning. When I started focusing on the things that were good and made me feel grateful, they started materialising in abundance.

When I became grateful for being patient with my kids, they reciprocated the love and bedtime routine became a joy rather than a battle.

The days where I found it hard to show gratitude, like when I fought with my kids, or I was stuck in traffic, it made me think and reflect on how I could find joy in any given situation. When you realise that a negative situation is usually originated out of anger or frustration, you can ask yourself, how can I be grateful for this? What has it taught me?

Finding gratitude helps change your mind-set and your outlook on the world around you. The more you look for good, the more you’ll find it.

A number of studies have shown that expressing gratitude leads to better sleep, more joy and happiness in your life, a stronger immune system, healthier relationships and a feeling of optimism.

Focusing on the positive isn’t easy to begin with. It takes practice and commitment. But the more you practice gratitude journaling, the easier and more exciting it becomes.

I now look forward to my bedtime routine, writing down the virtues of the day. I involve the kids and we talk about the things that didn’t go so well during the day and how we could do things differently next time to make our days even better.

It makes me more mindful during the day, and it honestly has had a positive impact on my life.

So I challenge YOU for the next 30 days to write down the things you are grateful for and see the changes in your life.

Before you go to sleep at night, close your eyes and take a moment to focus on the day that has been and what you are grateful for. Be specific. Connect with your emotions.

If you’re not a journal person, use the notes on your phone, or lie in bed, close your eyes and say them out loud.

Don’t worry about the number of things that you are grateful for, but wholly express the ones that you are. They don’t have to be profound or serious, you may find gratitude in the lesser things. Anything goes.

If you miss a day or two, that’s okay, just come back to it when you can… it will still be there. This is not supposed to be an inconvenience, but the more you practice; the more it will become an integral part of your daily routine.

Remember, it only takes few minutes but the impact on your life will be huge.

To prompt you (in case you get stuck!)

Things to be grateful for: a single moment today, songs, opportunities, small gesture someone made, holiday, gift that someone gave you, personal trait, food, local, piece of clothing, something that money cannot buy, friend in your life, teachers/mentors, family members, person who makes you laugh, person that you can call whenever, moment of inspiration, a silver lining, a simple pleasure.

Love, light and gratitude
